Job Description



Position Summary: The Library Technical Assistant position supports Stetson University by providing a friendly library user experience and keeping our resources neat and up to date. Serving as a member of the Law Library Team, the Library Technical Assistant will work regular hours at the circulation, maintain library resources, and assist with copy cataloguing and the processing of library materials. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Copy cataloguing
  • Checking in serials
  • Process, shelve, and as necessary, claim law library materials
  • Work regularly scheduled hours at the circulation desk
  • Library collection and stacks maintenance, including shelf-reading
  • Maintenance of library equipment including printers, copiers, and microform reader/printers
  • Interlibrary loans
  • Electronic records maintenance
  • Study room reservations
  • Assist with managing up-to-date patron records
  • Assist in maintenance and revision of policy and procedure manuals
  • Provides back-up when needed for receiving, sorting, and processing incoming campus mail
  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:
  • Familiarity with copy cataloguing and serial check-in procedures
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with use of online library databases preferred
  • Familiarity with use of office equipment including shredder, copier, printer, scanner, and microform reader/printers preferred
  • Familiarity with WMS ILS or other ILS preferred
  • Familiarity with use of an automated postage meter machine
  • Support the University's Mission and Values in their role.
Required Qualifications: This position requires:
  • High school diploma/GED required. 
  • Should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work as a positive team player.
  • Good organization skills, flexibility, the ability to multi-task, sound judgment and a high level of interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.
  • Flexibility to work outside the normal assigned schedule when requested.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications: The ideal candidate's qualifications include: 
  • Additional undergraduate education is a plus.
  • Academic or public library experience preferred. 
Work Environment: Work duties performed primarily in temperature-controlled environment; some customer interaction. Bending, twisting, reaching, and stooping. Lifting occasionally up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. May require travel between the Tampa and Gulfport campuses.

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025.  Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
