Department Chair in Education – LSU Shreveport
Louisiana State University Shreveport seeks an engaged, visionary, and strategic leader for the position of Associate or Full Professor and Department Chair of Education in the College of Education and Human Development. This position is a 9-month tenure-track position (plus summer stipend) with expected start date of August 2026. We are seeking applicants who have a proven record of academic leadership and mentorship, innovative research, effective teaching, impactful service, and exceptional interpersonal communication. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate high ethical standards, collaborate within and across departments, and respond to the changing needs of faculty, staff, and students. This position is based in Shreveport, Louisiana and is not a remote position.
Areas of responsibility include, but not limited to:
- Provide administrative and academic leadership in the areas of planning, management, and program development and evaluation in undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate programs
- Ensure successful re-accreditation of all accredited programs in the Department of Education
- Foster innovation among faculty, promote scholarly activity, and maintain the department’s positive relationships within the university and with local, state, and national units
- Serve as a visible leader and strong advocate for the LSUS Department of Education across the state and region
- Prepare and administer the department annual budget
- Supervise and evaluate the work and performance of staff members
- Assess and make recommendations for faculty tenure and promotion
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in an appropriate field of educator preparation
- Leadership experience in higher education
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service
- Experience with promotion and tenure processes (mentoring and evaluation)
- Knowledge/experience with accreditation and assessment processes
- Rank of Associate or Full Professor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to lead groups of people effectively
- Evidence of effective oral and written communication
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain a supportive and collaborative environment
- Demonstrated ability to support and enhance teaching and student learning
- Demonstrated experience developing and enhancing teams
- Commitment to accessible teaching, including online instruction
- Demonstrated collaborative experience with school systems and community agencies
