Job Summary
Develop, oversee and implement a multidisciplinary system of academic, social, and executive function support for Illinois Neurodiversity Initiative (INI) students through individual and group interventions and classroom instruction. Support program development and student activities including marketing/publicity, new student orientation, and senior capstone projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Academic Coordination
    • Develop system of supports for the academic success of INI students.
      • Implement customized executive function intervention plans as needed.
      • Manage relationships with supporting departments including SHS, Psychology, Social Work, and Special Education.
      • Oversee and conduct monthly academic check-ins.
        * Oversee INI study halls.
  • Instructor
    • Continued curriculum development and instruction of:
      • HDFS 205: Living on Your Own
      • HDFS 398: Global Self-Advocacy
      • HDFS 199: Senior Capstone I & II
  • INI Program Development/Student Activities
    • Promote growth of the INI program through:
      • Website maintenance and development.
      • Development of promotional materials.
      • Campus communication regarding recruiting and events.
      • Assessing student needs and program success.
    • Develop and run student programming including:
      • Development and implementation of first year orientation.
      • Student enrollment in INI classes.
  • Social Connection Lead
    • Develop programming/interventions to foster social connectedness and confidence.
      • Organize, and lead weekly social events.
      • Coordinate and lead social mentorship program.
      • Implement evidence-based social communication interventions.
  • Supervision
    • Supervision of graduate interns for 1:1 executive function intervention.
    • Development and oversight of undergraduate students in bidirectional mentorship program.
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in therapeutic/educational field. Licensure or certification in field of Speech Language Pathology, Education, Special Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or other therapeutic/educational field. At least one (1) year of professional experience implementing interventions for neurodivergent individual(s) in the therapeutic and/or classroom setting. At least one (1) year of experience operating in a leadership capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years experience working with neurodivergent individuals, classroom teaching, pre-professional student supervision, and implementation of individual cognitive, learning, and social interventions.

Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

Experience with program development.

Professional experience with data and marketing tools including Box, Excel, Canva, and social media platforms.

Experience teaching and or supervising at the post-secondary level.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 1/5/2026. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. This position may become permanent depending on funding and needs of the department. The budgeted salary range of the position is $65,000 to $67,000. Work for this position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
