Essential Job Duties:
We are seeking a researcher to participate in an initiative in human-centered AI for public microtransit systems. The successful candidate will design and implement AI-driven strategies that enhance system performance by promoting prosocial rider behaviors-such as flexible departure timing to benefit vulnerable users-and by personalizing rider interactions to sustain long-term engagement. This role involves modeling individual travel preferences and adaptive time windows, analyzing the effectiveness of message themes (e.g., pro-sociality vs. system efficiency), and deploying tailored persuasive techniques optimized for varied user profiles.

- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work closely with faculty from computer science, transportation engineering, operations research, and psychology on integrative research related to microtransit systems.
- AI algorithms and engineering: Design and implement advanced methods to learn rider preferences and effective persuasive approaches to promote cooperation. Build robust pipelines for simulation and integration with a user interface and other app components.
- User studies: Develop an experimental platform and run user studies to test developed algorithms and analyze impacts.
- Conference presentations and journal publications: Lead or contribute to conference and journal papers for top venues.

- Knowledge of computational social science, sociotechnical systems, ethics, and trust in AI
- Mobile or web app development, backend integration, and using cloud services
- A publication record in relevant venues
