The program in Africana Studies and the department of Religion at Washington and Lee University invite applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be trained in religious studies and able to contribute to the DeLaney Center, a university hub for the study of race relations, politics, and culture in the American South. We are interested in candidates who can offer courses in Religion in America, as well as intermediate and advanced courses in area(s) of expertise complementing existing curricula in the department of Religion and the program in Africana Studies. Candidates should be able to connect their research interests and specialties to the broader study of religion, as well as to the interests of the Delaney Center.
The appointment will begin July 1, 2026. Teaching load is five courses over three terms (two 12-week terms and one 4-week term) to include three courses in Africana Studies and two courses in Religion.
