Position Summary

The Special Initiatives Manager works with the Director of Sustainable Engineering to support sustainable engineering education efforts in the College. You will collaborate with the Director in implementing Sustainable Engineering Program activities, including aiding student-industry projects. Your contribution will be sought in two key initiatives. The first is implementing work associated with The Lemelson Foundation award in developing and delivering faculty development workshops and associated activities, including student advising. The second is on the DiLoreto Initiative in developing concepts and managing students to execute the associated tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Lemelson Foundation: Collaborate with the SUSE team and students on executing the deliverables of the grant, including developing and delivering workshops, and collaborating on the concept of a Engineering for One Planet Hub.

DiLoreto Initiative: Collaborate with the Director and students on executing the deliverables associated with this initiative, which include the greenhouse gas emissions baseline and strategy for the University, a Sustainability for One Planet Framework, and developing a research pathway for nature based solutions accounting. of the grant, including developing and delivering workshops, and collaborating on the concept of a Engineering for One Planet Hub.

Perform other duties and assist with projects as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal Education
  • Bachelor's degree required.
Work Experience
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 6-8 years in industry and academia in relevant and applicable settings.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
  • Ability to organize and direct development of presentation materials.
  • Ability to lead discussions.
  • Ability to instruct and interact with students in their development.
  • Must have strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills. The individual must be able to work independently as well as with others in a productive manner.
  • Self-starter who can take initiative on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced academic setting
Equipment Knowledge
  • Standard office equipment.

  • Experience in senior leadership roles in industry and academia

  • Microsoft office proficiency

  • Current state-of-knowledge on sustainability topics as they relate to engineering.
  • Understanding on how to respond to client needs with innovative and sustainable solutions
