We welcome applications from individuals from a broad range of disciplines to join us in advancing implementation science to achieve health equity. The The Department of Population Health was recently awarded an $11M Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) multi-year grant establishing the Kansas Center for Implementation Science (KCIS) with the goal of strengthening institutional, state, and national capacity in implementation and dissemination research. KCIS provides core services, pilot project grants, protected research time, and mentorship. KCIS's mission is to eliminate health disparities across the life course through implementation science.
We seek to identify an investigator to join the KCIS team. Successful candidates will be engaged in research in any domain of health and healthcare that seeks to optimize the adoption of evidence-based interventions and practices in relevant clinical or community settings. This is a 12-month. tenure-track position and opportunities exist for secondary appointments in other departments in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) campus in Kansas City, as well as academic units of the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
The Department of Population Health, located in the School of Medicine, provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. While our faculty draw from different scholarly disciplines, we share a common goal of remediating health disparities across Kansas and beyond. In addition to a record of partnership with state and regional health authorities, department faculty have long-standing collaborations with many community and clinical partners, providing a rich environment for impactful implementation science and community-engaged research. With faculty on three campuses - Kansas City, Wichita, and Salina - the Department is the academic home for graduate education leading to the MHSA, MPH, MSCR, and PhD.

- Lead, collaborate on, or participate in KCIS research, training, and service activities appropriate to rank.
- Maintain an ongoing program of research and training, with external funding, appropriate to rank and expertise.
- Direct or contribute to graduate courses and curriculum development.
- Participate in the intellectual life of the Department and School of Medicine, via faculty committees and activities.
- Provide other services to the school, university, profession, and community, as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Education: Doctorate in a health-related field (e.g. nursing, medicine or public health; health-related behavioral or social sciences).
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Work Experience:
- Experience in recording implementation science-focused scholarship in peer-reviewed publications, appropriate for ranking.
- Experience in funding for implementation science-focused research via participation in recent grants and/or contracts, appropriate to rank.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior faculty, postdoctoral trainees and/or doctoral students.
Work Experience:
- Experience in active principal Investigator R01-level funding of implementation science-focused projects.
- Experience in team science, quality improvement, knowledge translation, and/or translational science.
- Experience teaching and/or designing courses relevant to implementation science.
