Job Summary
Under department supervision, the faculty member will teach (including team-teaching) ASL/English interpreting, courses for the American Sign Language/English Interpreting program as assigned by the ASL/Interpreting Coordinator and/or the Associate Dean.
This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.
This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

1) In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities.
2. Prepares and administers student evaluations.
3. Keeps accurate classroom records.
4. Provides ADA accommodations as directed.
5. Answers questions about courses.
6. Follows SLCC policies and procedures.
7. Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL required.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
9. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.
You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.
You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Minimum qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in ASL/English Interpreting, or in ASL education, Linguistics, or a related field (e.g. Deaf Studies or Deaf Education) from an accredited college or university is required.
2. Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL required.
3. Interpreter certification RID, NAD IV-V, Utah CDI and/or Utah Professional.
4. Teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting.
5. Ability to read and write standard English.
6. Ability to use computer technology and programs, including email, spreadsheets, and program specific applications.
7. Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in ASL/English Interpreting or related field preferred.
2. Three (3) years full-time or five (5) years part-time college-level teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting.
