Description:The Helmerich School of Drama in the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor whose primary expertise is in directing, to support a newly established MFA in Directing program. This is a nine-month faculty appointment with 3/3 course load.
The ideal candidate will maintain a strong level of professional engagement in directing at a national and /or international level.
A record of excellence in teaching, mentoring students, and experience working with graduate and undergraduate population is highly desirable along with a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and innovative pedagogy.
Responsibilities include teaching courses in directing mainly but not limited to graduate students and other theatre performance areas as qualified. Additional duties include mentoring students, assisting in student recruitment, supervising graduate teaching assistants, and mentoring graduate thesis, and committee service. This position will also be working with the current faculty to further develop the MFA Directing curriculum and prepare students for contemporary directing and performance practice. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a creative/scholarly profile that aligns with the expectations of tenure and promotion at a tier-one research university. Additionally, they will contribute to sustained creative work, including directing in the University Theatre and School of Drama Lab seasons.
