Job Description: 

The Center for Global Engagement in Academic Affairs is seeking a full-time International Student Success Specialist (FA356).

The Center for Global Engagement encompasses the international programs and services on campus, including international admissions and recruitment, student services, study abroad, and global faculty development. Enrolling graduate, undergraduate, and non-degree students, and sending over 100 students abroad annually, a staff of five share their knowledge and passion for global education through engagement with students, faculty, and staff.

The International Student Success Specialist (ISSS) will support new international students from the point of enrollment through the first year to include facilitating orientation, teaching a course, and coaching first-year students. The ISSS will guide all international students in areas such as registration, academic advising, employment, financial issues, student life, and administrative processes, as well as supporting cultural and social adjustment through programs and activities. The specialist will play a key role supporting student-athletes and contributing to the success of the global student leadership organization.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements: 

Minimum

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Demonstrated experience working with international students
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutions of higher education
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in order to successfully communicate with faculty, staff, and campus partners
  • Must be a US citizen, or permanent resident, in order to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) in SEVIS

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching in the US or abroad
  • Experience living or studying abroad
  • Knowledge of a second language
  • Experience using student database systems such as Banner, DocFinity, Terra Dotta
  • Experience as a DSO in SEVIS
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule to meet student needs

Additional Information: 

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
