Position Highlights
The Division of Surgical Oncology is working as a collaborative team uniting and coordinating multidisciplinary scientific projects and programs across the spectrum of surgical oncology including hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, endocrine, melanoma and breast multidisciplinary oncologic care. The Research Coordinator is responsible for creating, submitting, and updating IRBs, building and maintaining databases that support these research studies, collecting and analyzing statistics for surgical oncology research projects. A clinical background and strong skills in biostatistics with the ability to perform statistical analysis is preferred. Expertise in RedCAP is also desired.
This position administers complex scientific research programs and is also responsible for coordinating the timely submission of the competing and non-competing renewals of federally funded grants. The successful candidate will interact and collaborate with project investigators, advisors, university and federal administrators. The Research Coordinator is expected to assist with the planning and implementation of research programs to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with NIH and University requirements. Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts research projects with multiple investigators; maintain partnerships with Department of Surgery, the College of Medicine, UA Public Health, and Population Science.
- Navigate the IRB process.
- Work with investigators to form databases around the Surgical Oncology Division's interests.
- Trains and supervises junior lab members in equipment operation and research techniques.
- Assist research leadership team with development of SOPs for the University and continue to restructure the research coordinator group to support all clinical research professionals.
- Coordinate and guide the work of student researchers and projects.
- Perform statistical analysis and be able to manage large analytic datasets.
- Lead coordination efforts for research projects with multiple investigators.
- Designs databases for research purposes.
- Assure compliance with policies of University, federal and community at large such as Human Subjects Committee to ensure that programs are in compliance with university, NIH regulations, and community standards.
- Responsible for assisting faculty with grant writing and research management including federal grants and national collaborative studies.
- Develop survey-based questionnaires for research initiatives for community health access.
- Complete retrospective studies and chart reviews for Surgical Oncology, Division; perform statistical analysis.
- Manage manuscript/scientific communications and editing (i.e. papers, presentations, abstracts, etc.).
- Monitor budgets, prepare recommendations for budgetary allowances and meet with business office to ensure fiscal responsibility for research budgets.
- Complete preliminary analyses as well as develop in-house databases in Redcap.
- Maintain partnership with the University of Arizona Cancer Center.
Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of university procedures/policies regarding Sponsored Projects and IRB.
- Computer literate in all critical programs (Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel and Publisher) and the aptitude to learn new software as necessary for grant writing, presentations, fiscal management and website/brochure creation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with data management or database (RedCap, Access, etc.) and competence in statistical software package (SAS, SPSS, Stata, or R).
- Grant writing and management skills in order to oversee NIH partnerships.
- Experience communicating with communities in Southern Arizona.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
