Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Area Dean, plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates Riverside City College's La Casa Program, including but not limited to culturally relevant activities, events, workshops, outreach, data management, and engagement center operations. The coordinator will counsel and advise students with respect to career, academic, and vocational goals. The coordinator will teach guidance courses and provide workshops that promote academic, professional, and personal success. This is a dual counselor/program coordinator position.

EDUCATION:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling.
(All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions).
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
EXPERIENCE:
1) A minimum of the equivalent of one year of full-time counseling experience at the collegiate level, as well as the equivalent of one year of teaching experience, also at the collegiate level, are required. Knowledge and experience in teaching guidance courses are required. Experience with
counseling special populations is desirable.
AND
2) A minimum of two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social, or economic disadvantages. Experience working with Latinx students in an Academic setting. Additionally, candidates must have experience working with
programs like La Casa, Puente, Rising Scholars, EOPS/CARE, First-Year Experience, and programming that promotes the academic and overall success of underrepresented and disproportionately impacted students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent experience working with historically underserved students in the classroom, and an understanding of how systemic racism and historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education. A good working knowledge and experience working with the CSU, UC, and Minority-Serving-Institutions is also preferred.
Proficiency in Spanish, both written and spoken, to effectively communicate with Spanish- speaking students, colleagues, or community. Ability to translate or interpret between English and Spanish in a professional setting. Experience working in a bilingual environment and managing cross-cultural communication. Strong understanding of cultural nuances and
sensitivity when interacting with Spanish-speaking individuals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assignments are based upon the assumption of a workload of forty hours weekly, which includes educational and career counseling to a diverse community college student population; providing support services to students at risk; development of student educational plans; assisting students with the transfer process; recruitment and outreach activities; instruction and class preparation; committee work; program and curriculum development, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
2. Participates in the development and implementation of special programs and services that focus on student equity and promote student retention
3. Works in collaboration with La Casa Educational Resource Advisor and assists in activities, events, and specialized workshops for the college's La Casa program.
4. May attend regional and state meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
5. Assists with orientation and registration for new La Casa program students; works with counseling staff as part of the counseling department; provides academic, vocational, and personal counseling.
6. Work with the Faculty Coordinator to plan class offerings as part of the La Casa learning community.
7. Participate in outreach efforts with our area unified school districts to recruit incoming students.
8. All faculty will participate in outcomes assessment work.
9. Other responsibilities may include developing career seminars and classes, transfer and study skills workshops, evaluating and recommending appropriate career instruments, including computer software, collaborative activities within the department and other disciplines, and developing a comprehensive career decision-making process for use with undecided students.
10. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
11. Counseling is a profession grounded in service with teamwork at the core. The successful candidate will uphold high standards of professionalism and teamwork.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintain broad knowledge of academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, appropriate professional activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
