Join a Community Rooted in Purpose, Compassion, and Excellence

Saint Martin’s University seeks a visionary, mission-driven leader to serve as the inaugural Dean of the School of Health and Allied Health. This is a pivotal moment in the University’s history, as we establish the School of Health and Allied Health alongside the newly reformed College of Arts, Sciences and Education and the School of Business and Engineering. These academic structures reflect a strategic realignment designed to support growth, foster innovation, and more fully embody our Catholic Benedictine mission across all disciplines.

The School of Health and Allied Health will initially encompass the University’s Nursing and Counseling programs, with the expectation that the Dean will guide and grow the School to include additional health-related disciplines in response to evolving community needs and workforce demands. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape a school from the ground up—building academic excellence, expanding partnerships, and preparing compassionate leaders in healthcare. We seek a collaborative and student-centered academic leader committed to advancing excellence in healthcare education within the context of our Catholic Benedictine heritage.

Position Overview

The Dean of the School of Health and Allied Health serves as the academic and administrative leader for nursing and allied health programs. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean will advance a vision for healthcare education that is rigorous, innovative, values-based, and deeply aligned with the mission of the University. The Dean supports faculty and staff in fostering a learning environment that promotes critical thinking, ethical reflection, compassion, and professional excellence.

This role is ideal for a candidate with strong experience in academic leadership, a passion for student success, and a deep appreciation for the integration of liberal arts and professional education within a Catholic, Benedictine context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Nursing and Allied Health programs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, including the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE.)
  • Build and maintain relationships with clinical partners, professional agencies, and accrediting bodies.
  • Oversee budget development, resource management, and external funding efforts.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, student success, faculty and staff development.
  • Facilitate strategic planning and curricular innovation that aligns with industry needs and University values.
  • Advocate for underserved populations and create inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environments.
  • Collaborate with other campus leaders to ensure integrated student services and mission-aligned policies.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Catholic moral principles in healthcare.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience with strategic planning, budget management, and faculty supervision.
  • Ability to build consensus and collaborate across disciplines and with external partners.
