Assistant Director Of Admissions



As a member of the University's undergraduate admissions and financial aid division, the Assistant Director is an integral team member charged with meeting the University's annual enrollment goals. Reporting to a Senior Associate Dean, the Assistant Director's responsibilities will include managing a domestic and international recruitment territory, travel, application evaluation and prospective student, parent and high school engagement. Additionally, the Assistant Director will have a leadership role in the undergraduate international applicant process.

Essential Functions:
  • Frequently corresponds with prospective students, their parents, secondary school personnel, alumni, and others, answering their questions and providing counsel about the admission process and W&L programs and opportunities.
  • Conducts virtual and in-person interviews and information sessions for all audiences and helps facilitate virtual international student programming throughout the year.
  • Participates in domestic and international recruitment, including territory management activities, on-campus programming, travel consisting of a combination of high school visits, college fairs, and information sessions, and timely involvement of alumni and current students.
  • Evaluates admission applications and recommends admission and scholarship decisions, taking a lead on international assessment across the team. Along with the Director of Admissions Operations and Director of Admissions Communications, implement and continuously assess the application process and communication for a growing international applicant pool.
  • May represent W&L to on and off campus constituents through active membership in international professional organizations and serve as liaison to staff in the office of international education.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Four or more years of work experience in selective college admissions, including international recruitment, and/or international secondary school college guidance are preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which a similar skill set would be obtained.
  • A demonstrated dedication to a residential liberal arts education, appreciation for diversity, the ability to work well collaboratively as well as independently, and a high level of energy and responsibility are highly valued characteristics.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated organizational abilities are expected.
  • Travel (up to six weeks per year), evening and weekend hours, and a valid driver's license are required.
  • Preference will be afforded to candidates with at least four years of extensive admissions experience, demonstrated interest and knowledge in the use of technology in admission, proven leadership experience within an admission team, a record of engagement with current students and investment in campus visit programming and planning.
Minimum Pay:

$60,804 - Pay Commensurate with Experience

Physical Requirements:

Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

Working Conditions: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Types of Work: Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
