Position Summary
The Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) at Roosevelt University invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor of Opera and Program Director of Opera. We seek an inspiring and collaborative artist-educator with demonstrated excellence in opera stage direction and program leadership. Working closely with the Program Director of Classical Voice, the Program Director of Opera will provide curricular, artistic, and administrative leadership for the undergraduate and graduate opera programs, as well as the Professional Diploma in Opera
This position has a faculty load of 4 + 4 (or a 24-credit load-hour equivalent), comprised of classroom teaching, stage directing, and administrative responsibilities across the academic year.

The salary range for this position is $50,000-52,000, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Primary responsibilities
- Serve as stage director for at least two productions annually:
- Undergraduate Opera
- OperaFest
- CCPA Spring Opera
- Serve as primary instructor for Dramatic Coaching of Operatic Repertory for the Professional Diploma in Opera program.
- Lead recruitment efforts for the Professional Diploma in Opera program.
- Collaborate with the Program Director of Classical Voice and other key constituencies to plan seasonal programming that aligns with student development and departmental goals.
- Provide curricular oversight for the opera program, including the development and management of rehearsal and production schedules.
- Supervise and mentor student performers, production assistants, and graduate assistants assigned to the opera space.
- Engage in production management, including scheduling, budgeting, and interfacing with production staff and designers.
- Maintain a commitment to inclusive casting, equitable rehearsal practices, and a supportive learning environment for diverse student artists.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Master's degree, or commensurate professional experience as a stage director for opera;
- Demonstrated experience as a director in the collegiate or young artist environment;
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to inspire and engage students, collaborate with faculty and guest artists, and contribute to the artistic and academic vision of the college;
- Strong musicianship, knowledge of operatic repertoire across various periods and styles, and the ability to effectively communicate artistic vision;
- A demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and engaging with diverse musical traditions and perspectives;
- Excellent organizational acumen.

- Experience directing both standard repertoire and contemporary works;
- Familiarity with academic opera training models and student mentorship;
- Experience mentoring early-career artists;
