Job Description:
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Radiation oncologists assess patients to determine if they are suitable candidates for radiation therapy, considering factors like cancer type, stage, and overall health.
- Create individualized treatment plans that specify the type, dose, and delivery method of radiation therapy, considering the patient's specific needs and the characteristics of the cancer.
- Utilize various advanced techniques, such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), to deliver precise radiation doses while minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissues.
- Work with other oncologists (medical, surgical), surgeons, and other specialists to ensure the most effective and comprehensive cancer treatment plan along with dosimetrists, physics and radiation therapists.
- Oversee the delivery of radiation therapy, ensuring accurate targeting and dose delivery.
- Track the patient's response to treatment, adjusting plans as needed to optimize results.
- Address and manage any side effects that may arise during or after treatment, such as fatigue, skin changes, or other symptoms.
- Offer emotional support and education to patients and their families, helping them understand the treatment process and manage any challenges.
- Participate in research to advance radiation therapy techniques and improve patient outcomes.
- Teach and train other medical professionals, including residents, dosimetrists, radiation therapists and medical physicists.
- Stay update to date on the latest advancements in radiation oncology through ongoing professional development and training.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Doctoral Degree in Medicine
- Completion of Radiation Oncology residency
Education:
- Doctoral of Osteopathic Medicine
- Board Certified in Radiation Oncology
- Use of radiation to treat cancer and certain benign conditions
- 2 years as a community Radiation Oncologist
- Resume/CV
