Job Description

The Assistant Director, Strategic Sourcing reports to the Associate Director for
Procurement Services and is responsible for implementing University-wide
strategic sourcing initiatives specific to software, technology and
professional services related purchases; managing best-in-class strategic
supplier relationships, negotiating complex contracts and service agreements, developing
optimal leverage strategies, ensuring that strategically sourced contracts
provide tangible benefits and value to the University. This position requires a
detailed understanding of the key business terms in software licensing and
subscription contracts necessary to mitigate risk, to evaluate key technology
supplier performance and ensure compliance with contractual requirements. The
position also requires detailed knowledge of technology supplier sales tactics,
and the strategies necessary to counter these tactics combined with
considerable experience utilizing them.

The Assistant Director also acts in a consultative
role with departments throughout the University providing guidance on the best
procurement practices to assist them in achieving their goals by understanding
their unique purchasing needs, and by developing sourcing plans and strategies
that best meet those needs. Candidates will develop spend analytics by
commodity and department in order to modify sourcing strategies as appropriate.  The Assistant Director will work closely with
the Procurement Services administration to develop and maintain an awareness of
changing commodity-related business trends and market dynamics, and to utilize technology
benchmarking research resources to reduce possible impacts to the University.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $94,850 to $118,550; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree is required.  Advanced degree in business preferred. 
  • Certification by a recognized professional
    organization including: Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Associate
    in Contract Management (CACM), Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM),
    or Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in a purchasing leadership role and
    the managing of professionals is highly preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible work
    experience in contracts, purchasing, or strategic sourcing is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of technology supplier sales tactics is preferred. 
  • Experience working with e-procurement
    systems is required as well as working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial
    Purchasing, E-procurement and Commitment Control. 
  • The position also requires strong
    process/analytical skills, and a high level of financial and business acumen as
    well as strong project management skills with proven experience in successfully
    managing and executing multiple, large-scale initiatives.
