Assistant Director of Residence Life

Dominican University New York is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused Assistant Director of Residence Life to join our dynamic Residence Life team. This is a full-time, 12 month, live-in position with nights and weekends required. The position includes an on-campus apartment and staff meal plan during the academic year. Anticipated start date is July 23, 2025 or sooner.

The Assistant Director supports the Director of Residence Life with the daily functions and operations of the Residence Life program. With the supervision of 8-12 Resident Assistants, the AD will also be responsible for overseeing one Residence Hall.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Residence Life Department; including but not limited to room change requests, facilities requests, key management, housing data management and attending regular department meetings
  • Serve as a University hearing officer (all case levels) and generate related judicial correspondence to students in a timely fashion
  • Oversee a residence hall that houses undergraduate and graduate students
  • Supervise and train Resident Assistants
  • Serve on the Administrator On Call Schedule and respond to campus incidents and emergencies/crises
  • Facilitate development of community by creating opportunities for residents to interact; including but not limited to conducting hall meetings; educating residents about being a member of a community, and initiating discussions between roommates
  • Enforce and uphold University and residence hall policies
  • Plan, organize and implement events, activities and trainings that meet needs of residents according to departmental programming model
  • Mediate conflicts that may occur between roommates and among residents
  • Collaborate with the RA staff to implement floor programming and staff development
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of departmental wide programming
  • Maintains regular office hours and on campus presence during nights and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required / Master’s Degree preferred in student affairs, higher education administration, human and social services, facilities management, business administration, and communications or related fields
  • 3-5 years’ professional experience working in Residence Life/Housing or other related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with changing deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Preferred proficiency with Maxient, Jenzabar or other housing software
