Description
The Advancement Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans that support the MCPHS University Advancement efforts, including fundraising, alumni engagement, and donor stewardship. This role ensures that all advancement-related messaging aligns with MCPHS's mission, core values, and strategic priorities, while effectively engaging key audiences such as alumni, donors, and friends of MCPHS. This role also plays a critical part in enhancing University Advancement efforts by building strong relationships with alumni, donors, and friends through effective storytelling and strategic communications. This is a hybrid position offering remote work two to three days each week.
• Content Creation: Develops compelling content and maintains; print, digital, and the Alumni website Content Management System, that include donor impact stories, alumni features, fundraising appeals, and stewardship communications.
• Advancement Website: Ensures website accessibility to WCAG 2.1 AA standards and guidelines.
• Marketing and Branding: Maintains consistency in messaging, tone, and branding across all advancement materials, ensuring adherence with University Advancement goals, and institutional marketing protocols.
• Donor and Alumni Engagement: Creates and executes on targeted communication campaigns to engage donors and alumni through Alumni Newsletters, email campaigns, social media, event promotions, and other means of communications to alumni, donors, and friends.
• Stewardship: Utilizes opportunities to share stories that express heartfelt appreciation to alumni, donors, and friends for their engagement and support.
• Campaign and Fundraising Support: Collaborates with University Advancement staff to create persuasive statements and collateral materials for annual giving efforts, capital campaigns, and major gift proposals.
• Event Communications: Develops promotional materials and event scripts for alumni reunions and alumni-related events, fundraising events, donor recognition programs, and other events overseen by University Advancement.
• Collaboration and Coordination: Collaborates closely with the Marketing and Communications Office to ensure alignment with institutional branding, messaging, and strategic communication initiatives.
• Metrics and Analysis: Tracks, analyzes, and makes recommendations for communication efforts to measure effectiveness and optimize future outreach to desired audiences.
• Works closely with senior academic leaders (e.g., Deans) and designees on alumni communications, advising them on message content, and collaboratively revising content as necessary, to ensure messaging is effective in its outreach.
Requirements
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
• Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience in marketing and communications, ideally in higher education
• Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience in advancement, fundraising, or nonprofit communications, ideally in higher education
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
• Proficiency in managing a variety of digital communications platforms, such as website content management systems (ideally SiteCore and Anthology), email marketing systems (ideally Imodules), and professional social media accounts
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively
• Will be required to support and staff key University Advancement programs and events that may necessitate occasional evening and weekend hours
• Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders in matrixed organizations
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
• Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
• Must be able to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Work requires the ability to travel by car, air, and/or rail either locally, domestically, and/or internationally.
