Description
The Dean of Students Office and the Office of Residence Life seeks a to Summer Practicum Intern to assist with evaluations of processes and functions within the past academic year with the Dean of Students Office, as well as assisting current staff with preparation of the upcoming academic year.

Office Residence Life functions (75%)
  • Work closely with the professional staff to support ongoing projects such as RA training planning, social media planning, and general planning/preparation for the academic year.
  • Research and development of new initiatives in the department such as best practices surrounding residence hall policies, supporting second year students in residence halls, etc.
  • Review and maintain department policies backed with national trends, research, and best practices to provide an inclusive and safe residential experience.
  • Assist in creating a written Residential Education curriculum for the various student populations that live on campus built off the mission and vision of the department
  • Prepare and execute department-wide programming for the Summer term and prepare programs to be executed throughout the academic year
  • Collaborate with University departments to assist with residential education initiatives and programming throughout the academic year to meet the needs of various student populations
  • Provide the Director with operational support on housing assignments, including but not limited to the returning housing selection process and new student placement.
  • Maintain student records around new deposits, cancellations, and changes throughout the summer.
  • Promote an atmosphere of quality interaction, shared accountability, and civic responsibility within the University community.
  • Contributes to sustaining and enhancing a positive working and learning environment.
Dean of Students Office functions (25%)
  • Assist with the development of educational materials promoting the Student of Code of Conduct, Academic Honesty Policy, and other important University Policies.
  • Assist with updating templates and forms in the Maxient database.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of resources available to students regarding Food and Financial Insecurity.
  • Assist with the marketing of services offered by the Dean of Students Office, including but limited to Food and Financial Insecurity, student advocacy, immunizations, and the Code of Conduct.
Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a residential life or student leadership setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Position is required to work in-person for all working hours
  • Typical office or administrative working conditions. Staff is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Work is primarily sedentary in nature; there are no special physical demands.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
