Job Description

The primary responsibility of the instructional faculty member is to teach assigned courses in accordance with the mission and standards of the J. Frank White Academy.

Required Qualifications

*degree in subject area taught as well as 12 hours of professional education courses and six hours of coursework every five years taught; and *Tennessee certification in area of specialization or appropriate permit/interim license.

Job Duties
  • promote the mission of the J. Frank White Academy and Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students and to the community at large;
  • promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students;
  • participate on University committees;
  • teach classes assigned by the Principal;
  • develop and distribute a course syllabus for each class assigned, and present copies to students, parents and the Principal;
  • teach each class within the framework of the mission of the Academy, the University, and the syllabus as presented;
  • establish course objectives for each course taught and create lesson plans aligned with Tennessee standards for the grade and content area taught;
  • assist in revision of curriculum as assigned;
  • evaluate enrolled students and submit grades in a timely fashion;
  • requisition materials required;
  • participate in the evaluation process and utilize the results to improve teaching effectiveness;
  • participate in events that support the institution, the faculty, staff and students;
  • assist at Academy basketball games, parent nights, open houses, preview nights, commencement, fundraisers and other duties as assigned;
  • advise one Academy organization;
  • update knowledge and skills;
  • leave materials/plans for substitute teachers;
  • maintain compliance with SACSCOC and or Cognia requirements for faculty members;
  • comply with the Academy Faculty Handbook and the LMU Employee Policy Manual;
  • provide 180 days of instruction plus five full days of in-service;
  • attend monthly faculty meetings;
  • participate on faculty committees as assigned;
  • sponsor at least one student organization (including after school or evening work associated with this sponsorship);
  • work athletic events and open house events during the year;
  • perform other duties as assigned; and
  • complete required institutional and program accreditation reports and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of the University and the J. Frank White Academy.
