SE CARES Coordinator/Lecturer

Salary $45,805

SUMMARY

Teach and/or oversee co-requisite math courses; train student teachers and adjunct faculty to teach math courses; assist in developing and administering Learning Center programs designed to evaluate and improve student retention by analyzing trends and developing curriculum, programs, and services; support the maintenance of student databases and the evaluation/updating of professional testing programs; and coordinate CARES programs, including data collection and reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Tutoring Students:
  • Teach co-requisite math courses
  • Tutor students in math as needed
  • Provide mastery learning through frequent assessments of skill attainment and feedback
  • Offer individual and small group academic interventions
  • Teach OGET Workshops, focusing on algebra concepts
  • Track and record student progress through various methods, including reporting attendance, progress, and grades via Canvas and Colleague Self Service, grading homework, and supplying progress reports to students and instructors
  • Assist in researching and selecting effective assessment tools for consideration
  • Identify factors that hinder student success
  • Develop and teach computerized math curriculum
  • Co-supervise student employees and approve time entries as needed
CARES Administrator & Reports:
  • Maintain computerized test banks and student databases
  • Collaborate with Math, English, and other faculty to establish, monitor, and deliver activities focused on alternatives to remediation in math, reading, English, and science
  • Track and report academic and retention outcomes related to these activities
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data
  • Identify factors that hinder student success
Training Student Employees (Math, English, and CARES Learning Model):
  • Train student tutors to mentor and support new students in math
  • Train student tutors to mentor and support new students in learning strategies for English and reading
  • Train student workers/adjunct instructors to teach developmental courses
Testing and Learning Center Operations:
  • Assist with entry-level assessments and other related activities
  • Help maintain proper testing environments and ensure the security of test center files, documents, and computer software/hardware
  • Assist in administering the Residual ACT, as needed
  • Schedule and administer CLEP exams
  • Enter CPT test scores in Colleague
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Learning Center webpage
  • Report directly to the director of the Learning Center
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director of the Learning Center

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

A master's degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a related field with at least 18 graduate-level credit hours in mathematics is required. The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to engage effectively with both traditional and non-traditional college students from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the candidate must be capable and willing to become proficient in using Colleague Self Service, Etrieve, and Canvas.

PREFERRED:

Knowledge of the organizational structure and operations of a college or university; experience in developing computerized curriculum for both traditional on-campus and online courses; and experience with remediation at the university level or in a similar setting.
