Vice President for Student Affairs
Maryland Institute College of Art, a prestigious art and design college in Baltimore, Maryland, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its vice president for student affairs. This is an on-site leadership role.
Founded in 1826, MICA is at the vanguard of art and design education and among the most highly respected in the world, attracting students from almost all 50 states and over 50 foreign countries. As the oldest continuously degree-granting college of art and design in the nation, MICA is committed to expanding the role of creative practitioners in contemporary society. MICA enrolls approximately 1,600 undergraduate and 350 graduate students nationally and internationally.
Reporting to the president, the vice president for student affairs (VPSA) is responsible for the administration, coordination, and supervision of the division of student affairs. The VPSA serves as the senior executive on campus responsible for non-academic aspects of student life for undergraduate and graduate students; has primary responsibility for the leadership, management, strategic direction, development and advancement, policy development, and administrative oversight of the division; as well as the programming, planning, and delivery of co-curricular services to the student body. The VPSA's portfolio includes oversight and the administration of key departments and programs that are essential to the student experience: residence life & off-campus housing, student conduct, student engagement, outreach & support, orientation & student leadership development, career services, student health and counseling services, accessibility & disability services, and dining services.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a master's degree from an accredited college or university in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field and ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs or a related area within a higher education setting. The new VPSA will have demonstrated success in strategic planning, staff development, crisis management, and program implementation and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student development. A leadership approach that is mission-driven and collaborative, fostering an inclusive and supportive campus environment that prioritizes student success, engagement, and well-being; a forward-thinking perspective and a willingness to pursue new opportunities, remain informed on latest trends and best practices, and lead significant change processes when appropriate; and a deep understanding of federal and state laws governing students' rights and compliance in higher education are all required qualifications.
Preferred qualifications include a doctoral degree and practical experience in or a sensitive understanding of the creative process in the visual arts.
