North Carolina Wesleyan University is a four-year, Liberal Arts University located in Rocky Mount, NC. We are inviting applications for a full-time Graduate Advisor/Designated School Official for our Adult & Professional Studies Department. The position will be located in Rocky Mount, NC and/or remote work as a possibility.

Summary: Advises executive graduate students on all academic-related areas including, but not limited to, schedule; course planning; institutional policies; academic resources. Ensures compliance with federal regulations governing international students studying on a Visa, serving as institutional DSO representative. Assist in the development of institutional processes; full advisement of prospective and current students; have strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interface well with the public; assist with recruitment and admission efforts as assigned by the Administration. Collection and presentation of data related to executive graduate student enrollment.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Advising:

  • Advise and counsel executive graduate students on academic policies and processes, including program requirements, degree completion, academic planning, satisfactory academic progress, academic resources, residency requirements etc.
  • Process registrations, student drops, financial aid paperwork, etc.
  • Audit files to ensure accurate tracking of credits completed.
  • Follow up with advisees on first week drops, complete drop forms.
  • Relationship building with students through telephone, email, and face-to-face communication.
  • Schedule and meet regularly with advisees.
  • Maintain precise, detailed records of all assigned students from orientation to graduation by utilizing current college systems.
  • Provide counseling for students working with difficult courses or life challenges that may interrupt degree completion.
  • Transfer necessary documents and effectively community with other college departments.
  • Assist in identifying issues, challenges and barriers to student success and research potential solutions.

DSO:

  • Support international students in the areas of compliance, regulations, and application processes.
  • Advise visa students on their specific goals, benefits and restrictions.
  • Work closely with Director of International Student Services to ensure compliance and provide support for executive graduate international students.
  • Advocate for, serve and support international graduate students as needs arise.
  • Collaborate with campus departments concerning international student needs.
  • Assist with the scheduling, hotel & travel accommodations and day-to-day tasks related to residency weekends.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Director of ISS.
  • Participate in monthly trainings with ISS staff.
  • Maintain all reports/records/registration and application processes for graduate F-1 internationals.

Other:

  • Assist administration with various advising and operational projects, as assigned.
  • Participate in team training, meetings, etc.
  • Travel in local/neighboring communities and to NCWC locations.
  • Assist in recruiting activities, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Experience with and a passion for directly serving students in the higher education setting
  • Awareness of evolving global perspectives and intercultural sensitivity
  • Ability to organize and multi-task responsibilities, maintain flexibility, communicate effectively, build and maintain relationships
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including limited nights and weekends
  • NC Driver’s License
  • Previous experience with F-1 visa students preferred
