Organizational Unit Overview:
The mission of the College of Education (COE) is the preparation of professional educators and allied practitioners. Significant to this mission is a strong commitment to three important related areas, all of which are realized through partnerships and other endeavors. This reclassification is valid for six years.
Job Duties:
The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking two full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty members in Library Science. These positions are at the rank of Assistant Professor and begin August 2025. The MLS program at East Carolina University has three masters degree concentrations: academic librarianship, public librarianship, and school librarianship with a new concentration launching for Fall 2025 that specializes in archives and cultural heritage informatics. The teaching mode is primarily asynchronous online.
The candidate for the Assistant Professor position will teach graduate courses in a fully online format and will serve in additional, value-added capacities to the department through recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts. The successful candidate will conduct research, teach, and advise students in our ALA-accredited masters degree program. Program, department, college, university, and professional service is also expected.

Minimum Education/Experience:
A doctoral degree in library, information sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they will support students in one or more of the program concentrations through their research or teaching; as well as a documented record or ability to build a record of research and scholarship, and experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats. ABD candidates will be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to the first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
In addition to the required qualifications, the following experiences, skills, and training/education are preferred: A masters degree accredited by the American Library Association; Research and teaching interests in areas that complement any of the programs areas of expertise; Ability to teach two or more of the core courses; Experience teaching courses at the graduate level; Experience teaching online courses. Specialized knowledge of rural librarianship, community-based librarianship, organization of information, or technologies for library services, or archival studies is especially welcome.
