Carlow University Occupational Therapy MSOT and OTD Programs are now fully accredited, and we are looking to grow our successful team! The university invites applications for a new faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, based upon academic qualifications, in the Master of Science and entry-level Doctorate in Occupational Therapy Programs. As a member of the MSOT/OTD programs, this faculty member represents occupational therapy leadership committed to the program’s mission of occupational justice, positive social consciousness, and serving the health and occupational needs of diverse and under resourced populations. The Occupational Therapy program is fully committed to assembling a diverse faculty team with a Mercy perspective and Catholic identity, focused on creating an inclusive, transformational learning environment to prepare students for today’s healthcare and tomorrows challenges.

The appointment is a twelve-month, full-time position. The position will begin August 2025. Documented evidence of expertise in the areas of adult/older adult practice, and anatomy/biomechanics will be preferred for this appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues, support an inter-professional learning environment, encourage student learning and development, and participate in service activities to support the University, community, and profession. Qualified candidates will engage in scholarly activities congruent with the Boyer Model of Scholarship. The faculty positions involve teaching, scholarship activities, advisement, and service responsibilities. 

JOB PURPOSE: 

The faculty appointment of Assistant Professor is a full-time (12-month), tenure track, core faculty member with an appointment in the Occupational Therapy Masters and Doctoral Programs who has administrative reassigned time to supervise and mentor students in field placements. Documented evidence of expertise in adults/older adults practice, leadership, and management, will be preferred for this appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues, support an inter-professional learning environment, encourage student learning and development, and participate in service activities to support the University, community, and profession.

Qualified candidates will engage in scholarly activities congruent with the Boyer Model of Scholarship. The faculty positions involve teaching, scholarship activities, advisement, and service responsibilities. The core faculty appointment is an essential part of the success of the entry-level Occupational Therapy MSOT and OTD programs and the fulfillment of the mission of the Occupational Therapy Program and Carlow University. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Teaching graduate courses in the occupational therapy program
  • Teaching expertise in adult and older adult practice
  • Student advising and mentoring research/doctoral projects
  • Maintaining an active, collaborative scholarship agenda
  • Engaging in departmental, University, community, and professional service
  • Teach or co-teach didactic courses related to areas of expertise
  • Establish roles as core faculty member including service on assigned committees
  • Participation in university governance, and implementation of a personal scholarly agenda
  • Develop and maintain a scholarship/research agenda per annual goals.
  • Support Department Scholarship agenda, research of faculty and students as needed.
  • Actively participate in service to the OT program, College, University, and community.
  • Participate in program, college, and university committees as assigned.
  • Maintain membership and active involvement in professional organization(s).

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Documented expertise in the academic subject area and demonstrated expertise in interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present in public.
  • Ability to problem-solve and extinguish problematic areas within the program. -
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to utilize short and long-term planning of program activities 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Occupational Therapist with NBCOT certification
  • Licensed and eligible to practice occupational therapy in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of advanced credentials/expertise in an area of occupational therapy practice
  • Excellent communication, conflict management and problem-solving skills 
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong leadership skills and a vision for excellence and interprofessional collaboration
  • Demonstrated skills in teaching and instructional technology.
  • Evidence of active involvement in community and professional service
  • A commitment to the educational mission of Carlow University

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years of post-licensure clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience in research and supervising doctoral student activities, including capstone projects
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level
