Job Description
Elizabethtown College is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Teaching in Criminal Justice (non-tenure track) to contribute to its growing Criminal Justice program.


The Criminal Justice program is housed within the School of Public Service whose mission is grounded in the motto of Elizabethtown College, Educate for Service. Our programs empower students to use their knowledge, expertise, and communication skills to solve pressing problems in their communities and around the globe. Graduates of our program are leaders who pursue meaningful careers within all levels of government, non-profit agencies, the legal community, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), media organizations, and other places where they can make a difference. They shape public policy, lead community organizations, inform public discourse, build positive community relations, and design programs and initiatives to serve the public interest.


This is a full-time, nine-month position reporting to the Dean of the School of Public Service. The preferred start date is August 1, 2025. The College is looking to hire innovative faculty prepared to support our increasingly diverse student body. The School of Public Service faculty are committed to preparing students for lifelong learning, service, and professional outcomes. Approximately 30% of Elizabethtown College students are first-generation college students.



Job Duties
Specific job responsibilities include teaching within the curriculum, participating in effective marketing and recruitment of undergraduate students to the program, advising and mentoring students, advising student research projects, providing service to the program, and making significant contributions to college-wide councils/committees.


We are looking for a criminal justice generalist with the ability to cover a range of courses within the criminal justice program. Ideal candidates will have teaching and practical experience in criminal justice, corrections, and criminal law/procedures. Additional areas of interest are open, but coverage of some of the following courses is a plus: Juvenile Justice, Intro to Law, Victimology. Candidates who can also contribute to the legal studies program and advising will be given additional preference.


Successful candidates will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to collaboration. The criminal justice program is interdisciplinary and faculty will work with political science, legal studies, pre-law, and other disciplines to develop initiatives and create opportunities for students. Experience with or demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and support students from historically underrepresented groups is preferred. We prefer candidates with the ability to contribute to the diversity of our department and institution, whether through personal experience, teaching, scholarship, or service.



Required Qualifications
Candidates with a Master's degree and relevant work experience are strongly encouraged to apply; a doctorate degree in Criminal Justice is preferred.


Preference will be given to candidates with real-world experience in the criminal justice field and those with potential to build community partnerships with government agencies, non-profits, and/or other organizations involved in criminal justice and reform. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to student success and excellence and working within an interdisciplinary learning team approach.

The narrative of practical experience should highlight how relevant work history and ongoing professional activity will enhance the teaching and advising of students.
