Job Description:

The Department of Professional Education Programs of The Esteves School of Education at Russell Sage College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Education in Childhood Education and/or Special Education, effective for Academic Year 2025/2026.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching load of 7-8 courses per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) including supervision of student teachers.
  • Advising students in the undergraduate and graduate childhood and special education programs
  • Service and scholarship appropriate for a tenure-track position at a teaching institution. 

The estimated base academic year salary range for this position is $52,000- $55,000, commensurate with experience.

Requirements:

  • A terminal degree in education with an emphasis on PK-8 education and special education experience
  • Leadership focus and experience
  • Ability to work with diverse students and colleagues, success in creating inclusive classrooms and environments, and knowledge/experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives/social-emotional learning.
  • Teaching credentials and a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in K-8 classrooms and/or special education settings.
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and advise a diverse student population in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Understanding of the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards
  • Understanding of Special Education law and processes
  • Understanding of New York State teacher credential processes
  • Demonstrated evidence of experience in social-emotional learning and/or positive education
  • Experience and Knowledge in The Science of Reading
  • Understanding of positive behavior support and asset-based teaching
  • Evidence of successful teaching in higher education or comparable experience in the field of education
  • Demonstrated evidence of working for social justice and equity for learners.
  • Knowledge of linguistically and culturally responsive practices grounded in principles of equity.
  • Experience teaching and advising students in education programs at the institution
  • Willingness to service the college in necessary capacities including, but not limited to, serving on committees, advising clubs, and participating in CTL.
  • Familiarity with the Boyer Model and scholarship
  • Ability to develop effective partnerships with community stakeholders and colleagues across various disciplines.
  • Knowledge of and experience with collaboration using a strengths-based equity-minded approach with colleagues in the workplace and/or in an education setting
