Position Highlights

The Sarver Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Arizona is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associates. The ideal candidates will possess a doctoral degree (PhD or MD) and have a strong background in molecular biology and physiology. There are three major projects in the lab: 1) studying the role of various cellular proteins in cardiac, immune and cancer metabolism, 2) role of mRNA-binding proteins in cell regeneration, and 3) characterization of cellular and mitochondrial iron homeostasis. Using mouse models, histology, cell culture, differential expression analyses, and molecular biology assays, our lab studies the molecular mechanisms that regulate metabolic processes and iron homeostasis both in the cytoplasm and mitochondria.

In addition to their own project/experimental procedures, the Postdoctoral Research Associates are required to work with other lab members and assist with their own projects. The primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training. The Postdoctoral Research Associates will focus on contributing to the research initiatives of the department under the principal investigator/mentor's mentorship and interaction with collaborators.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop research projects and perform experiments within the Sarver Cardiovascular Research Center.
  • Train and supervise intern,
    undergraduate, medical, and graduate student lab members.
  • Work as a member of the
    principal investigator's research team and contribute novel hypotheses, ideas,
    and develop novel methodologies.
  • Contribute and participate
    in the authorship of research publications and presentations.
  • Collect, analyze and graph
    data, conclude research projects in a timely manner, write reports, and
    manuscripts.
  • Engage in career
    development activities, apply for dedicated funding and contribute to lab-based
    grant proposals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or MD conferred by the start date and 0-3 years of experience at Postdoc rank.
