Carlow University is currently accepting applications for a part-time Nursing Academic Coach to serve in our Center for Academic Achievement.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Nursing Academic Coach will be a resource for undergraduate nursing students and provide on-to-one support in study skills, and self-management skills specific to college-level nursing. In addition, individuals will:
- Provide classroom workshops on these skills.
- Help students with academic growth and development to increase confidence and succeed academically.
- Be a part of a team that reaches out to struggling students and provides strategies for success. Meet students’ needs with a flexible schedule and strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide individual academic coaching.
- Help students with academic growth and development to increase confidence and succeed academically.
- Promote student empowerment skills through motivational discussions and self–esteem building activities
- Develop individual action plans with measurable outcomes for success
- Provide classroom workshops on study skills.
- Have a working knowledge of campus resources for student referrals.
- Maintain visibility among the student body through orientations, campus events, and test review sessions.
- Participate in the Carlow Care Team to respond to student needs as appropriate.
- Communicate with the nursing faculty regarding academically at-risk students.
- Collaborate with student resources at Carlow University to assist with academic support, healthy lifestyle, and residential living.
- Participate in the retention efforts of the Undergraduate Nursing Retention Committee
- Participate in the First-Year Retention Committee and provide frequent communication to first-year nursing students.
- Collect data regarding workload and outcome achievement of students based on the role objectives and coach-student outcomes for sessions
- Maintain confidential student records in collaboration with the College of Health and Wellness and the Center for Academic Achievement.
- Continue education through the National Association for Coaching and Tutoring
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or enrolled in a graduate nursing program and a Registered Nurse (RN).
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Candidate must have recent experience in teaching or precepting nursing students.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR LICENSURE
- Interested applicants who have overcome similar barriers (low income, first-generation college student) are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrate experience building inclusive learning environments for diverse students.
