Job Description
The Department of Human Performance and Sports Studies (HPSS) in the College of Education at Idaho State University invites applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2025.
HPSS offers undergraduate majors in Sport Management (Sport Operations and Coaching emphases areas), Sport and Exercise Science, Outdoor Education and delivers core content curricula for Physical Education - Teaching majors. Additionally, HPSS offers a Master of Arts in Athletic Administration and houses the university's physical education activity class (PEAC) program.
We are seeking to hire someone with a diverse background and expertise in sport management with an appreciation for coaching. Specific responsibilities will primarily include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to these disciplines. Courses taught may include those such as Introduction to Sport Management, Sports Marketing, Sport Law, Sport Finance, and Sport Facility and Event Management.
Key Responsibilities
In addition to teaching 9 credits per semester, our faculty -
Candidates with PhD or other terminal degree in related field will be considered for tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (rank and salary commensurate with experience), with a workload of 9 units of teaching (60%), 3 units of scholarship (20%) and 3 units of service (20%) per semester over 9-months.

- Establish and maintain a record of significant scholarly activity, to include professional publication and presentation (tenure track rank only).
- Perform service to the department of HPSS, the College of Education, the University and the profession.
- Embrace our commitment to student recruitment/retention and to program improvement.

- Earned doctorate (PhD, EdD) in Sport Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field. ABD will be considered.
- At least three years of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Commitment to scholarly activity (publications, presentations, grants).
- Demonstrated success in and/or commitment to mentoring and advising students at the undergraduate level.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least three years of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in related field.
- Experience with curriculum development and/or course modification as it pertains to sport management, coaching, or related field.
- At least three years of experience in student advising at the college level.
- Significant record of publications/scholarly activity.
- A demonstrated commitment to seeking out internal and external grant opportunities to support research and creative activity and program development.
- Demonstrated record of leadership/work experience in a sport management setting
- Demonstrated commitment to service to the profession.
