Graduate Hall Director
Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier is Catholic and historically Black. Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking to hire a Graduate Assistant staff member dedicated to creating an environment where students are safe, connected, and engaged in the campus community. This position is responsible for developing a living-learning community for a diverse residential population of 100-400 students. The Graduate Hall Director supervises 4-10 Resident Assistants. The primary function of the Graduate Hall Director is to direct and oversee the community development of the residence hall including administrative and managerial responsibilities, educational programming, and student staff development. The Graduate Hall Director serves in the central housing office and fills collateral assignments when requested. Serves in the evening, on-duty rotation, and provides support to students during times of emergency, crisis, or other needs for assistance.
The Graduate Hall Director is a live-in graduate student supervisor among the Residential Education staff in the Division of Student Affairs. The department is committed to a comprehensive residential program; one that blends the co-curricular with the academic to create a comprehensive educational environment that assists all residents in achieving their fullest potential. The Graduate Hall Director is recognized as a University official and represents the University and the department on and off University property. The Graduate Hall Director will fulfill the general requirements and responsibilities in the job description and must be accepted as a full-time graduate student. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Residential Education. Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- Must be accepted and enrolled as a full-time graduate student and carry a minimum of 9 credit hours.
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Maintain a clear judicial record with the Office of Residential Education and Community Standards Office.
- Must reside in the Graduate Hall Director suite in an assigned residence hall.
- Must respond in a prompt manner to messages left by residents, colleagues, and central office staff.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.
- Display leadership qualities as evidenced by previous leadership experiences, recommendations, and evaluations from the Graduate Hall Director selection and application process.
- Display strong interpersonal skills through proven ability to interact effectively with others as perceived through the selection and interview process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience in a team setting
- Resident Assistant experience
- Previous experience residing on campus
Work Schedule:
- 20 office hours per week
- On-call duty rotation that includes weekends where carrying a departmental cell phone is required
- Due to the nature of the position, work hours may exceed during high peak times of the academic year (i.e. Fall semester move-in, Spring semester move-out)
Compensation:
The Graduate Hall Director position is compensated with a package that includes: tuition remission at Xavier University of Louisiana, a partially furnished Director's suite/apartment within the residence hall, meal plan, and monthly stipend to be distributed over the 10-month contractual term. Please note, the monetary distribution of the GHD compensation package is subject to change depending on changes to University fees (i.e. tuition, meal plans, etc.) Graduate Hall Directors are required to pay registration and applicable fees.
Term of Employment:
July-May of the academic year. Contract is renewable based upon end of the year evaluation.
