Job Duties:
The College of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at East Carolina University invites applications for the 12-month faculty position of Associate Professor or Professor and administrative position of Associate Dean of Research. The faculty position is eligible for tenure within one of the six units within the College of Health and Human Performance at the Associate Professor or Professor level. This position is a .10 FTE faculty position, with .90 FTE administrative reassignment to the Office of the Dean in the College of Health and Human Performance. The Associate Dean of Research will provide strategic leadership to advance the Colleges research mission, support faculty growth in scholarship, creative activities, and community engaged research initiatives, and foster robust community partnerships. Reporting to the Dean, the ADR will cultivate an environment of collaboration, innovation, and professional development that enhances the research capabilities, faculty excellence, and community impact of the College.
Research Leadership:
Research Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to elevate the research profile of the College of Health and Human Performance.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations within the College, across the university, and with external partners.
- Oversee grant development processes, including identifying funding opportunities, supporting proposal development, and providing guidance on compliance with funding agency regulations.
- Establish and manage research support systems, including mentoring programs for early career faculty and workshops on grant writing and research methodologies.
- Foster a supportive, collaborative research culture in the College.
Faculty Development:
- Design and implement programs that enhance facultys ability to engage in impactful research and scholarship, including fixed-term, tenure track, and tenured faculty.
- Collaborate with department chairs/directors to identify faculty development needs and create tailored professional growth plans.
- Develop recognition programs to celebrate faculty research achievements and scholarly contributions.
- Provide leadership in guiding faculty through promotion and tenure processes with a focus on research, creative activities, and external funding.
Community Engagement:
- Build and sustain partnerships with local, regional, and global communities to facilitate community engaged research projects that address societal challenges.
- Support faculty in integrating community based participatory research (CBPR) approaches into their work.
- Develop initiatives to connect students and faculty with community organizations to foster mutual learning and impactful collaboration.
- Represent the College at events and meetings focused on community engagement and research impact.
- Establish best practices for community engaged scholarship and offer professional development opportunities for faculty to enhance their community focused work.
Research Infrastructure and Administration:
- Oversee and supervise the research development team within the College.
- Oversee the development and implementation of college-wide policies and procedures related to the research enterprise.
- Work with university leadership to secure additional resources for research initiatives.
- Collaborate with ECUs Office of Research Administration and external funding agencies to ensure compliance with research related policies.
- Support faculty in disseminating their research through publications, presentations, and other scholarly outlets.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Terminal degree in a field related to health, human performance, or human services.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
N/A
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
A strong record of research accomplishments, including grant acquisition, scholarly publications, and community-engaged research.
Experience in academic leadership or administrative roles, including faculty development and mentoring.
Demonstrated commitment to community engagement in research and scholarship.
