North Carolina Wesleyan University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor of Exercise Science appointment beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching various core classes at the undergraduate level, ranging from introductory to advanced exercise physiology courses, directing the Lab of Applied Physiology (LAP), promoting program growth and academic quality, supervising student interns, and serving on internal committees. Faculty are expected to engage students through the use of both traditional and innovative instructional strategies. A regular load at North Carolina Wesleyan University is 12 undergraduate hours per semester but may vary based on the teaching load in the graduate program.

North Carolina Wesleyan University is a liberal arts university, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university is located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and serves approximately 1,500 students, including adult and professional students in the evening and online. Rocky Mount is in the eastern coastal plain region of the state, convenient to the Raleigh-Durham area and beaches, including the Outer Banks. Washington, DC, and the mountains of North Carolina are also within easy driving distance.

Qualifications: An earned doctoral degree in Exercise Science or a closely related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered but must have obtained a Ph.D. by August 2025. Previous college or university-level teaching experience is strongly preferred, particularly in kinesiology and biomechanics, exercise testing and prescription, and strength and conditioning. An American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) or National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) certification is highly desirable. Evidence of scholarly activities, such as submission of peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations, is also desirable.
