Rhode Island College invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Veterans Affairs and Military Programs. This is a full-time, calendar year, continuing position.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Director of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs will serve as a key member of the team in the Dean of Students Office. The Assistant Director of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs serves as the College-wide resource providing expertise, guidance and support to Rhode Island College student veterans and military-connected students. The Assistant Director of Veterans Affairs and Military Programs will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to support the vision and strategy for Student Success, contributing to a co-curricular educational experience that complements Rhode Island College’s curriculum and promotes student engagement and leadership development.

Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is a distinctive regional college personalizing education for undergraduate and graduate students. The college serves approximately 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students through its five schools: The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Business, the School of Nursing and the School of Social Work. The 180-acre campus is located in beautiful, historic Providence, Rhode Island’s capital, with excellent proximity to the academic and cultural resources of Boston and New York City.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum five years of progressively responsible experience working with veterans and/or military­ connected people (including a minimum of two years' professional experience in higher education.)
  • Demonstrated facilitation and training experience. 
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating and collaborating with students, university administrators, and State and Federal officials.
  • Demonstrated experience with attention to detail, collecting and analyzing data and applying results.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's Degree 
  • Prior or current military service in a command assignment or leadership role.
  • Military deployment or combat experience; those with prior military experience must have been honorably discharged.
  • Field operational or administrative experience, including substantial responsibility for personnel, budgetary, and capital management.
  • Substantial experience working in joint military assignments or with multiple branches of the military.
  • Experience working in higher education settings, or with higher education institutions.
  • Experience working in or with organizations or administrations of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Experience facilitating, training, and supervising; demonstrated innovativeness and resourcefulness.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability; evidence of collaborative work style.
