Position Highlights

The Department of Religious Studies and Classics at the University of Arizona invites applications for a one-year visiting lecturer in Classics (full time, with benefits). Candidates at the ABD level will be considered for the position at the rank of visiting instructor. The successful candidate will teach General Education courses for a diverse undergraduate student population.

The department seeks applicants prepared to teach a broad range of introductory-level undergraduate courses in Classics, including courses in classical mythology and Greek and Roman civilizations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching 4 courses per semester based on
    department needs.
  • Holding office hours.
  • Preparing teaching materials
    independently and collaboratively.
  • Actively recruiting students to the major
    and minors in Classics.
  • Attending meetings and/or events as
    requested.
  • Contributing to departmental efforts to
    develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and
    fostering inclusive excellence.
  • Additional
    duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABD in Classics or closely related field
  • Professional-level
    English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Classics or closely related field by August 15, 2025.
  • Experience teaching Classics at the university level.
