This position performs a broad scope of accounting assignments including initiating, reviewing, monitoring, reconciling and approving financial transactions while exhibiting professional and basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Provides accounting advisory services to university departments ensuring financial activities are recorded in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Federal and State regulations, Arizona Board of Regents and university policies and procedures. Assists in preparing portions of the university's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and other various reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical accounting advice, services and training to
    university departments and assists with problems and routine issues to
    ensure financial transactions are in compliance with generally accepted
    accounting principles and all pertinent accounting and financial
    reporting standards, policies, and regulations.
  • Consults with
    campus departments regarding business processes, best practices and
    process changes to increase operational efficiencies and internal
    controls.
  • Assists with developing and presenting formal trainings to departments, as needed or on request.
  • Offers technical advice and consultation to university departments.
  • Performs
    a broad scope of professional accounting activities, such as
    initiating, reviewing, monitoring, reconciling and approving financial
    accounting transactions and investigating any accounting discrepancies
    and identifying solutions.
  • Determines expenditure allowability based on department information, account restrictions, and university policy.
  • Provides guidance on and ensures proper recording of financial transactions.
  • Assists with researching, analyzing, and making decisions that impact assigned functions.
  • Assists in the coordination of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Assists
    in preparing portions of university financial reports and surveys, such
    as the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and other monthly,
    quarterly and annual reports and surveys.
  • Assists in the
    accurate preparation of complex and detailed annual audit fund binders
    and workpapers to include comparative variance analyses and related
    journal entries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Skill in performing detailed numerical computations.
  • Skill in preparing detailed reports on a timely basis.
  • Ability
    to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines and work in a
    fast-paced work environment where job duties change, and new procedures
    are initiated.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related area with accounting course work AND 3 months of professional accounting experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UAccess Financials and Analytics.
  • Experience with spreadsheet and database applications such as Excel, including Pivot tables, and Access.
  • Experience in preparing financial statements, reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Experience with reviewing transactions for compliance with policies.
  • Experience in fund accounting in higher education or other governmental organizations.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
