Career Planning & Development Coordinator

Position Summary

The Career Planning and Development Coordinator provides direct support for logistical planning and execution of events for the Office of Career Planning and Development. In addition, this position provides and orchestrates various administrative duties to fulfill the College's Strategic Plan theme to "deliver the Spelman Promise" by ensuring "every student who enrolls not only graduates, but graduates with a competitive edge." This position provides direct support to the Graduate School Coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with Graduate School workshops and fairs which include logistics for events, room reservations, contacting catering, FMS for set-up, break-down, and student check-in.
  • Help students by researching and selecting a graduate/professional school that aligns with career interest and goals as needed.
  • Assist with Kaplan Test Prep registration.
  • Designs, coordinates, and delivers experiential learning opportunities to prepare students for graduate/professional school and job/internship opportunities.
  • Identifies and markets weekly career placement, professional development, and graduate school opportunities in Handshake and other external marketing platforms.
  • Creates and distributes marketing material for recruiting events and internships, fellowships, scholarships, research, and job opportunities using various marketing efforts and platforms.
  • Organizes and maintains an electronic schedule of events on Handshake, the Virtual Career Center and Social Media Platforms.
  • Drafts communications for internal and external outreach as needed.
  • Maintains and manages data on events, student engagement, student satisfaction, and employer/graduate school satisfaction for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Provides the Web Team with content for updating the webpage with career placement and graduate/professional school prep opportunities.
  • Attends cross-institutional meetings (Quality Enhancement Plan-QEP, Internship Task Force, Campus Logistics, etc.) when assigned and assists in executing campus wide initiatives on behalf of Career Planning and Development.
  • Utilizes innovative messaging and technology to recognize and celebrate career + graduate school, internship, fellowship, research, and job placements.
  • Facilitates and assists with data collection and reporting for First Destination Survey, Six Month Survey, Senior Placement Survey, Clearinghouse Report, and other data tracking reports as necessary.
  • Fulfills other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is required. Must have a minimum of three years related experience and/or training in working with career or graduate school programs, public relations, or program development, are required.

Strong people/process service focus, excellent written, verbal and time management skills are essential.

Professional demeanor with the ability to interface with students, staff and external constituents with diplomacy and tact is essential. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail. Work requires fact-finding and compilation skills plus ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously, at times with little supervision.

Excellent oral communication skills are required when providing information and responding to questions from students, parents, employees and the general public in one-on-one or group situations. Incumbent must be able to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and emails. Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Good proofreading skills are essential.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to perform intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Canva, and Internet navigation. In addition to producing correspondence, memos, and e-mails duties involve assignments that require creating spreadsheets, graphs and Power Point presentations, as well as, using software systems such as enterprise-wide office systems (i.e. Banner and 25 Live).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a higher education setting is a plus. Creative and self-starter preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, walk, use hands to handle office supplies, operate computer and other office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to: reach with hands and arms and stand. The employee is occasionally required to: stoop climb, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds (with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job, ability to adjust focus.
