Summary of Position

The Veteran Services Office at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) provides comprehensive support to active military, veteran students, and their dependents. Collaborating with various programs across campus, the office ensures that military-affiliated students have access to the information and resources they need to fully engage in the wide range of student activities offered at RRCC. The Veteran Benefits Advisor serves as the School Certifying Official on behalf of RRCC and works closely with the Military and Veteran Service Director. They provide educational guidance on degree planning and support the goals of military, veteran, and veteran-affiliated students throughout their time at RRCC. Additionally, the Veteran Benefits Advisor acts as the primary point of contact for veteran students utilizing VA educational benefits.
A successful candidate for this position must demonstrate a strong understanding of VA educational benefit processes and regulations, ensuring accurate certification for veterans and their dependents. Excellent communication skills are essential for advising students on VA benefits, academic planning, and career resources, while collaborating effectively with various campus departments. Strong organizational skills are crucial for managing the VA Work Study Program, coordinating events, maintaining compliance with federal and state requirements, and providing comprehensive support to military and veteran students.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong presentation, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • High level of customer service skills and ability to resolve issues in a timely manner with minimal number of complaints.
  • Ability to solicit feedback from students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience working with military-affiliated populations, within a post-secondary institution, or government regulated program(s).
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook, and other basic office software.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to inclusion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of VLOOKUP and pivot table functions in Excel.
  • Advising experience in a college or university setting.
  • Experience working with Banner or similar student information system
WORK ENVIRONMENT & TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE (DAYS/TIMES):

Work is generally performed in a standard office environment. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. May require hours outside of regular office hours, including some weekends. May require work at both campuses. May require travel between campuses.

PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS:
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transport standard office supplies and equipment weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $47,396.00 - $52,136.00 / annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
