McKendree University, located in Lebanon, IL, invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Sport Management for the School of Business beginning in August 2025. This is an on-campus, full-time position and is eligible for a competitive compensation and benefits package.

This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the head of the Sport Management Division in advancing a robust, interdisciplinary program that combines academic excellence with experiential learning. The successful candidate will play a key supporting role in delivering innovative curriculum and fostering partnerships designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in the sports industry.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate will:

  • Collaborate with the lead Sport Management professor in developing, delivering, and assessing undergrade courses in Sport Management.
  • Enhance partnerships with sports organizations to expand experiential learning opportunities at local, national, and global levels.
  • Supervise student research projects, internships, and capstone experiences.
  • Conduct scholarly activities, including research, publications, grant writing, and conference presentations, to contribute to the academic and professional communities.
  • Assist with program accreditation processes and departmental assessment activities.
  • Advise and mentor students, contributing to their academic and professional development.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees to support the institution’s mission and goals.

Required Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Sport Management, Sport Administration, or a closely related field is preferred. ABD candidates with scheduled completion by August 2025 will be considered.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Sport Management or related fields.
  • Experience developing or enhancing academic programs, particularly those emphasizing experiential and interdisciplinary learning.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to establish industry partnerships that support internships, professional field experiences, and career pipelines for students.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity, including publications, conference presentations, and research collaborations.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in Esports, data analytics, AI integration, and revenue generation in sports and a demonstrated ability to incorporate these into curriculum design.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.

FLSA Category: Exempt

Salary Range: $40,260.00 - $60,000.00 / Annually

Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions and department budget.
