Position Summary:
The dual language learners coach will lead the implementation of the Dual Language Learners model in the early childhood classrooms. They will also be responsible for teaching staff to enhance the curriculum/planning with an emphasis on maximizing language acquisition of the home language and the acquisition of English with culturally and linguistically diverse students within the classroom environment, the daily schedule, and daily routines.
This position will be responsible for designing and conducting professional development for staff regarding the process of second language acquisition during the early years, identifying developmentally appropriate strategies, teaching competencies, and effective practices, and for documenting staff and children's progress in applying dual language acquisition strategies. The DLL coach will review the collection of individual and group child data obtained from assessments, observations, and conversations with families to make sure that children who are DLL's progress in each area of learning and development, while also promoting English acquisition and home language development, to identify trends for continued professional development and individual coaching.

Job Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and embedding of dual language strategies into early learning environments and the impacts on children, staff, and families.
- Design and implement professional development regarding dual language learning principles in early childhood classrooms.
- Document professional development and coaching on how it is individualized to meet the needs of each teacher
- Meet and communicate on a regular basis with Mentor Teachers, teachers, evaluation partners, and others as directed.
- Observe teachers in the classrooms and coach teachers on how to support children in maximizing child outcomes of language acquisition.
- Meet regularly with teachers to plan the integration of dual language principles into their classroom environment and routine.
- Instruct and support teachers with dual language instructional and environmental resources.
- Help teachers utilize child and classroom data in integrating dual language principles into the classroom environment to enhance child outcomes in language acquisition and all domains including literacy.
- Document how the children are making gains due to DLL strategies.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a manner that fosters supportive relationships with staff, families and children from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain child and family confidentiality and perform duties in an ethical and professional manner .
- Follow all mandates of Head Start Regulations, state and local childcare licensing regulations, and Project Eagle/Educare Kansas City's philosophy and curriculum.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Work Experience:
- Three years of teaching or consulting experience in center-based programs serving infants and toddlers; this is in addition to any experience that is substituted for education.
- Experience in applying dual language learner's strategies and knowledge of child development such as the Planned Language Approach (PLA). -1- 2 years
- One year of experience in a leadership position in an Early Childhood Education program.
- Experience with early childhood curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Early childhood teaching certification.
- Dual Language Education (DLE) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification.
- Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment.
- Demonstrated experience working with underserved children and their families and families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to establish trusting relationships with young children. Ability to communicate effectively and establish partnerships with other classroom teachers, center staff, parents, and community partners.
- Ability to create positive relationships with teachers, staff, parents, and children.
- Demonstrates leadership traits and abilities and shows respect to others.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
