Assistant Athletic Trainer Job Description

Sport Specific Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for daily health care needs for GS athletes
    1. Includes attending sport specific games and practices.
    2. Attend sport specific weights if there is a sickle cell trait positive student-athlete on the roster.
    3. Travel with the team away events.
    4. Injury reports to all coaches, including strength and conditioning in a timely manner.
    5. Maintain all documentation of injuries/illness, rehab and their progress notes
    6. Maintain all documentation of all doctor referrals, surgery notes, and diagnostic test results/referrals.
    7. Responsible for hydration needs of all practices and organization for home game days.
    8. Responsible for medical claim filing/processing.
    9. Responsible for assisting the sports medicine team with sport coverage of other sports / events as needed.

Athletic Training Education Program Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for serving as a Preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program and the duties involved with the responsibility.
  2. Responsible for following all CAATE rules and regulations/standards involved with being a Preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program.
  3. Participate in monthly academic/athletic meetings.

University and Board of Regents Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for following Georgia Southern University Board of Regents’ code of conduct, policy manual, and code of ethics (can be accessed online on the university website).

Athletic Department Responsibilities

  1. Attend monthly department meetings
  2. Responsible for following Georgia Southern University athletics Policy Manual rules and regulations.
  3. Be committed to and demonstrate understanding, acceptance, and compliance with NCAA and institutional athletic related rules and regulations at all times; pass the annual compliance training provided by the compliance office through Building a Better U.
  4. Communicate NCAA compliance standards and assist with rules-education.
  5. Report all known or suspected violations of NCAA or conference regulations to the appropriate athletic or institutional administrator.

Sports Medicine Department Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for following the NATA Code of Ethics (can be found on NATA website).
  2. Responsible for maintaining Code of Professional Responsibility.
  3. Responsible for abiding by and implementing all GS Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures.
  4. Maintain all confidential information in accordance with HIPAA and sign a confidentiality document annually.
  5. Follow all safety and other risk management policies in performance of work in accordance with OSHA/CDC/NATA.
  6. Work closely with the team physician and all medical specialists.
  7. Assist with duties associated with maintaining a professional health care facility.
  8. Responsible for requesting and communicating days off, half days, and vacation with the Deputy Athletic Director / SWA / Head Athletic Trainer.
  9. Maintaining a positive rapport with all staff members in the work environment.
  10. Annual update of policy and procedures with the assistance of the Deputy Athletic Director / SWA / Head Athletic Trainer.
  11. Directly responsible for the following administrative duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director / SWA / Head Athletic Trainer.
  12. Any other duties assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director / SWA / Head Athletic Trainer.
