Summary of Position

The Fine Woodworking department is a group of professional woodworkers whose mission is to develop students to think critically about design, their works' historical context, and the creation of well-crafted pieces. We teach traditional and modern woodworking technologies to best prepare our students for professional enterprises in the field. We have a very culturally diverse student population whose woodworking interests vary. We offer Classic, Steel String, Electric guitar as well as Mandolin, Violin, and Ukulele construction classes.

Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program.

This position reports to the department chair within the discipline and does not supervise other employees. Occasional meetings or trainings may also be scheduled outside of regular work hours. The finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online classes.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and skills
Required Qualifications:
  • Specialization in stringed instrument building
  • Submission of professional portfolio with up to 10 professional images
  • Demonstrated competence in various stringed instrument styles and construction techniques
  • 4,000 professional hours over the last seven years in Lutherie or related industry
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College degree in Fine Arts or related disciplines
  • Professional Lutherie with emphasis on traditional instrument techniques and materials
  • Incorporation of CAD/CNC technologies and utilization in instrument building
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.
Physical and Cognitive Demands:The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:
  • Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.

Advertised Hourly Pay
The pay for this position is $1,620.04.00 - $1,810.50 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
