Job Description Summary:
The Research Assistant will perform a varies of duties including but not limited to: Responsible for duties related to NIH funded studies, teaching weight management courses, responsible for providing health education to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Position will collect data and coordination of individuals and/or group(s). Responsible for timely communications with staff and participants. Interact with other health educators and collaborate best practices. Participate in updating materials and presentations for class lessons as requested.

About The Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management:

The Division of Physical Activity and Weight Management at KUMC is dedicated to conducting high-quality research to help understand, prevent, and treat obesity and related diseases. The Division has successfully maintained continuous funding for 26 years to support clinical trials from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a variety of industry partners, and private foundation grants. We believe in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to research and strive to create a supportive, enriching environment for all team members. We conduct studies aimed at understanding, preventing, and treating obesity and related conditions in a variety of populations and health conditions.

Job Description:

Job Duties
  • Implement research per protocol to diet, physical activity and behavior change to clients/participants enrolled programs funded by National Institute of Health.
  • Coordination and collection of data related to diet, physical activity, behavior change and body composition.
  • Weight Management Health Educator: Instructs patients for adherence to weight management protocols/guidelines.
  • Perform data entry, prepare data reports for project coordinator, and manage participant data files for change, completeness and/or transition and preparation for data analysis.
  • Provide health education to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Assist other health educators with education, data management, class coverage, etc. as needed.

Work Environment
  • Work multiple locations within Kansas City and Lawrence.
  • Work some evenings depending on study roles and responsibilities.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Public Health, Nutrition, or related field.

Preferred Qualification
  • Experience in weight management.
  • Experience in fitness/nutrition classes.
  • Experience in anthropometric measurement.
  • Experience in a community or clinic setting promoting exercise, health and/or weight loss.
  • Experience with database entry.
Skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communicator; oral and written.
  • Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
