Position Description
Employees in this classification are in the senior position of this career track and provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In the clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from a physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In the office, the employee receives direct supervision from the department administrator. May supervise other Medical Assistants, clerical staff, and student positions. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions.

Major/Essential Functions
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) works closely with the Medical Director and Head Nurse to supervise and support clinic staff, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. Order necessary medical supplies, ensuring that adequate inventory is maintained at all times. Ensure all medical equipment is functioning properly and request maintenance or repairs as needed. The CMA is responsible for patient intake, accurate documentation, conducting specific clinical tests, administering medications, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Administer prescribed medications and injections as per physician orders within your scope of practice and TTUHSC policies, ensuring proper documentation of the procedure. Additionally, the CMA ensures accurate charge entry and supports various waiver or grant programs, including ACO, DSRIP, and TIPPS. Communicate with patients via telephone and/or EMR, answering questions and providing necessary follow-up instructions according to clinic protocols. Assist and/or chaperone physicians during patient exams and procedures, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients. Adhere to all TTUHSC policies, clinic protocols, and HIPAA guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure high-quality care.
Required Qualifications
Education: A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of the required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.
Experience: A minimum of two years of directly related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and patient care protocols. Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and patient documentation. Ability to perform POC testing, PFTs, and EKGs accurately. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and staff. Knowledge of billing practices and familiarity with waiver and grant program documentation (ACOs, DSRIP, TIPPS, etc.). Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
