The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Rose-Hulman has a full-time faculty position available at the assistant professor-level. We are searching for inspiring educators who share our passion for teaching undergraduate engineering students as a tenure-track Assistant Professor or recurring appointment-track Assistant Professor of Practice.

Essential job functions include teaching and advising students; service to the department, Institute, and professional communities; and professional development. Each of our team members teaches introductory and advanced courses in their subdiscipline plus some service courses outside their subdiscipline. Our undergraduate students are our highest priority, with service and professional development being secondary.

Tenure-track professor requirements include a doctorate in Structural Engineering; practical experience and PE licensure are highly valued. Professor of Practice requirements include a master's degree in Structural Engineering plus a PE license with experience as a Structural Engineer. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for positions at higher rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.

As a part of your cover letter, please identify a required junior-level structures course you would like to teach, two required CE or EM courses outside of structural engineering that you would like to teach, and which 500-level structures courses you would like to teach.   • A statement that discusses your teaching philosophy and accomplishments that demonstrates a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. 
  • A statement that discusses your professional development objectives. Note that Rose-Hulman broadly defines professional development as “continued intellectual growth throughout one’s career.” Professional development may include scholarship in all its forms, including the scholarships of discovery, integration, application, teaching, and learning. 
  • A separate statement demonstrating your commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. This statement should highlight your particular strengths, experiences, or perspectives that might serve to broaden and enhance our students’ educational experience. 
  • A current curriculum vitae. 

Finalist candidates will also be asked to provide contact information for at least three professional references capable of commenting on the appropriateness of your candidacy at Rose-Hulman. Review of applications will begin on December 6, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.
