The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is seeking a Temporary Research Subcontracting Administrator to support Boston College's research mission and the goals of OSP. Reporting to the Associate Director, Research Subcontracting, this role collaborates closely with post-award staff to provide oversight and guidance on outgoing research subcontracts. The Administrator manages services and offers direction to Boston College departments, schools, and Centers/Institutes in the development and setup of these subcontracts, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
This position involves building strong relationships with departmental administrators, faculty, researchers, and other stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of roles and responsibilities. The Administrator provides comprehensive guidance to researchers on compliance requirements for outgoing subcontracts and collaborates with OSP management to develop and implement a university-wide training program for staff, faculty, and research administrators. Additionally, the role monitors operations against key performance metrics, such as timelines for risk management, preparation, negotiation, and execution of subcontracts. Significant issues are identified independently, with guidance sought from internal and external sources as needed.
The work conducted occurs primarily in the office with occasional evening or weekend work required to meet deadlines or address urgent matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Research Subcontracting Administration (95%)
- Advise the university research community on subcontract lifecycle management and subrecipient monitoring activities.
- Review subcontract requests, ensuring compliance with university and sponsor policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist with subrecipient risk assessments and monitoring processes.
Draft, negotiate, and manage the execution of outgoing subcontract agreements with collaborating institutions. - Track subcontract statuses and coordinate mid-project or closeout reviews with relevant teams.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Research Finance and other offices under the Vice
- President for Research, to ensure subrecipient compliance.
- Monitor and report performance metrics, such as timelines for risk assessments and subcontract execution.
- Ensure timely completion of FFATA reporting and approve incoming subaward invoices and requisitions.
Training and Policy Development (5%)
- Participate in developing and delivering university-wide research training programs for OSP staff, faculty, and research administrators.
- Assist with creating up-to-date training materials and enhancing OSP resources, such as the website.
- Contribute to internal policy development and represent the office on research committees.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required
- Experience working with faculty/departmental administrators in an academic setting
- Knowledge of Federal regulations for managing higher education research administration
- Knowledge of Boston College internal administrative/financial systems preferred
- Ability to manage a complex workload with multiple competing demands and intense deadline pressure
- Willingness and interest in participating in professional research administration organizations
- Continuing professional education as provided by professional organizations (NCURA, SRA, etc.)
