Position Description
Job Summary:
The Office of International Education (OIE) supports undergraduate students through facilitating enriching and engaging study abroad experiences for an academic year, a semester, and/or summer, as guided by the academic standards of Harvard College.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director will lead a wide range of student service-oriented projects including advising, training, and strategic planning for new programs and initiatives to support targeted student populations.
Typical Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist and advise students in all aspects of studying abroad, according to Harvard College policies, from the beginning stages of selecting a program to their re-entry back to Harvard
Work closely with students, academic departments, and study abroad programs and international universities on all aspects related to the study abroad process including advising on internal and external funding sources
Refine and conduct regular analysis and reporting of study abroad student data, including student demographics and academics for internal and external metrics tracking
Oversee the technical management of student applications in Terra Dotta and serve as the department's IT liaison on integration projects
Identify and track new and developing opportunities for academic year, semester, and summer international engagement
Partner with and engage in regular communication with program providers, other US universities, and foreign universities offering study abroad opportunities and programs, helping the team to stay current on international opportunities
Collaboratively develop and facilitate workshops, information sessions, outreach activities, special programs to promote study abroad across Harvard's campus
Design and produce department marketing collateral including but not limited to brochures, flyers, and videos
Represent the department at professional conferences and participate in annual site assessments for program review as needed
Additional duties and projects as necessary
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant work experience
Minimum five years of experience in international study advising with specific experience in study abroad program evaluation
Extensive experience in academic administration, data analysis, and working directly with undergraduate students
Hands-on experience with database and engagement platform management
Master's degree and experience studying and/or working abroad strongly preferred
Fluency in at least one foreign language
Graphic design experience
Strong ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and other members of the academic community
Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills
Collaborative team player with demonstrated ability to be self-directed and proactive
Enthusiasm for the mission of undergraduate education and an appreciation for the value of the international experience as a component of the undergraduate experience
This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
