Job Description
Basic Function:We seek an innovative, collaborative, and highly motivated individual to serve as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Librarian. The ideal candidate will share the College's commitment to serving a diverse community of learners and promoting an inclusive, equity focused environment. The DEIA Librarian will provide a leadership role for the library's ongoing efforts to develop strategies to build awareness, knowledge, and skills across the organization in diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility. They will also ensure that the library's services, collections, and resources reflect our commitment to diversity and equity. In addition, successful candidates will have a strong understanding of open educational resources (OER), open licensing, open pedagogy, and the landscape in which these open-enabled domains reside. This position's responsibilities will also include reference services, collection development, library instruction and teaching library courses.

We are looking for candidates who have recent experience working with marginalized/minoritized populations; who understand how historical patterns have shaped minoritized groups' experiences and representation within higher education, including how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes; who are willing to examine and adapt their relational and instructional practices to engage and support various groups of marginalized students; who embrace culturally sustaining teaching practices and anti-racist policies to address equity gaps; and who demonstrate knowledge of the implications of addressing equity gaps in higher education.

Through a lens of equity and inclusion, this position works with the Reference team to provide research assistance and library instruction tailored to the specific needs of both online and face-to-face learners and faculty. The candidate will also serve as a subject area(s) liaison as assigned.

The ideal candidate will share Riverside City College's commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college currently enrolls nearly 22,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. 66.7% of RCC's students are Hispanic, 7.2% are African-American, 4.7% are Asian American, 0.2% are Native American, 0.3% are Pacific Islander, 13.8% are White, and 4.1% are multiracial. Riverside City College has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.
Education:American Library Association (ALA) accredited master's degree in Library Science or Library Information Science, or an equivalent advanced degree. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions).
Experience:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience in face-to-face and virtual librarian duties including reference, collection development and maintenance, and library instruction.
2. Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively and to promote teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness within the RCC Library and the campus.
3. Knowledge or experience in best practices related to the adoption, adaptation, and creation of OERs.
4.Willingness to examine and adapt their relational and instructional practices to engage and support various groups of marginalized students.
5. Recent experience working with historically underserved students in the classroom, and an understanding of historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education, and ability to foster constructive dialogue with different campus constituencies to ensure an inclusive environment.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and a true public service orientation.
7. Proficiency with newer technologies related to academic libraries, e.g. Springshare platform, online catalog platforms, Outlook and Office Suites, etc..

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Completion of the Creative Commons certificate course.
2.Experience in education and instructional design using an LMS system such as Canvas.
3.Demonstrated experience leading successful initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
4.Spanish language fluency.
5.Grant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:1. Represent the library in campus equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives and develop collaborative relationships with the Dean of College Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement, Equity Committee, equity-based Engagement Centers, etc., providing insight and advice to administrators, library colleagues, groups, and units to increase awareness and accountability for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in programs, services, and scholarship.
2. Identifies and pursues opportunities for the RCC Library to support education and cultural transformation with regard to bias and discrimination against any group of people.
3. Engages with colleagues across RCC in advancing strategies for an inclusive library climate.
4. Contributes to training and organizational development activities that lead to sustained individual, organizational and systems change, addressing topics such as cultural awareness, multicultural effectiveness and proficiency; humility; anti-racist practices; microaggressions and biases; power; privilege; and restorative justice.
5. Ensure that the library's services, collections, programs, and resources are developed and maintained with a focus on equity and inclusiveness.
6. Act as the lead person for the library for local, district, and statewide equity and diversity initiatives, programs, and committees.
7. Provide leadership, vision, and support for Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives for the library by developing strategic partnerships with various college stakeholders to assist faculty in the discovery, creation, adoption, dissemination, and assessment of open and affordable course content.
8. Participate in college and district discussions related to open and affordable course content to ensure ongoing communication and collaboration with involved constituencies, including the creation of OER-related instructional resources, including webpages, guides, learning objects, and workshops on open and affordable course content.
9. Participate in college activities and professional organizations.
10. Participate in librarian duties including in-person and online reference, collection development, library instruction, and teaching library credit course(s).
11. Participate in on-going library program review, strategic planning, and the development and implementation of new services and programs.
12. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly (42.5 in the compressed calendar), including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
13. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development and other matters are also expected of all department faculty.
14. Librarianship is a profession grounded in service with teamwork at the core. The successful candidate will uphold high standards of professionalism, teamwork, and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
15. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
16. Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.

Conditions of Employment:1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
