An exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher is available in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Arizona. This position will lead the analysis of long-term data on quail population dynamics to provide recommendations on factors influencing population dynamics and develop management recommendations for additional monitoring and data collection. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also lead data analyses and the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, coordinate research efforts with state agency partners, present results at scientific conferences as appropriate and, as resources allow, assist with mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment.
This position is a year-to-year contracted position, but depending on work performance and funding this position may last up to 6/30/2026.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Use long-term data on quail population dynamics to conduct analyses informing the factors influencing quail population dynamics.
- Explore the feasibility of using Bayesian statistical reconstruction population models to estimate quail abundance.
- Provide recommendations to agency partners on additional data collection and monitoring needs.
- Lead the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific publication.
- Present results of analyses at scientific conferences as appropriate and as resources allow.
- Participate in weekly lab meetings.
- Aid in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong quantitative skills (particularly with hierarchical models for estimating population demographic parameters)
- Advanced programming skills in R
- Enthusiasm for publishing scientific research
- Ability to write high quality manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication in a timely manner
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Enthusiasm for wildlife conservation
- Strong work ethic
- Enthusiasm for participating in the lab culture and mentoring junior members of the lab (e.g., graduate and undergraduate students)
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Statistics, etc.) by the time of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with Bayesian statistical reconstruction population models and/or integrated population models
- Previous experience with upland game birds and/or recreationally harvested species

Notice of Availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.
